11-13 July
We had a unit encampment on these dates at Camp Henry Horner, Ingleside, IL.. This is a fun place; we attend every summer. The YM's always have a blast and ask repeatedly, "When can we go back?" They love us at the camp and always give us a great rate because our YM's BEHAVE! YM's. Their comment is always we were the most well behaved group they ever had at the camp.
29 July-2 August
We had a combined fun encampment with Chicago's Own at our favorite spot, Big Timber Scout Camp, can't call it a Boy Scout Camp any longer - smiles. The renovations to the main lodge, which includes the mess hall and the commercial kitchen were still going on, so we used our tents. Our Chef fed at the small cabin down the hill. The encampment was a blast, we about wore the UC's out. As always this encampment culminated with a water ballon battle. This year we had 1700 ballons. Of course, you know who everybody was after? Yep the two UC's, and we got good. LOL
19 October 2018
On 19 October, we will had our third annual Young Marine Birthday Ball. The actual birthday is the 17th, but that's in the middle of the week, so we had it the Friday afterwards. This is always a grand affair, complete with pomp and circimstance. There's the ceremony with ther color guard, the cake escorts, and the cutting of the cake for oldest and youngest Young Marines present. It's catered and we had our favortite DJ with all the great new music for dancing. It's dress up affair and the whole family is invited.
27-29 December
We have grown so much in the last two months it's unbelievable. We currently have eight YM Recruits with the potential of three more joining shortly. Therefore, we must have boot camp so these young Stalwarts can become Privates and start work on climbing the rank ladder at their own pace. Our boot camp will be held this time at our secondary drill location, which will be a first for us so we are all looking forward to it. The YM's will be dropped off the morning of Thursday, 12/27, and picked up the eveninig of Saturday, 12/29 after a graduation ceremony, potluck dinner for all, and a Christmas Party. This will end 2018 for Fox Valley Young Marines, but we are all excited and so looking forward to the new year and what the staff has panned for the summer of 2019. Please go to Upcoming Events to see what is in store for us.
